As many of you know, we asked for urgent prayers regarding our mission trip to the small island of Taha’a. After months of communications and attempts at organizing ministries, on the eve of our arrival, it seemed as though we were arriving empty-handed. We asked for your prayers, and at the same time, our six-person team asked fervently for God’s direction and His abundant grace. He is after all the Master Choreographer of our lives.

          As our water taxi came into the dock on Taha’a, Rene’ and I saw a familiar face and heard a cry of joy. The daughter of one of our pastor friends on Tahiti was there for summer camp! The camp was located at a secondary dock, which we had not used in the past. The normal destination for a water taxi was the one we had arranged only the day before because others were not available.

          We took the initiative and asked the leadership of the camp if we could share the Gospel and lead some games and activities for a couple of hours. The organization of the camp was actually from Tahiti, less than a mile from our home! They provide a residential foster care home for children who need it. Because of the sensitive nature of their government service, it normally takes a lengthy application process through government channels to have any hope of ministry with these children. Essentially the leadership looked at us and said yes, you are welcome.

          At the end of our time with the kids, they gave us heartfelt thanks. The kids were quite grateful as well. The door that opened on Taha’a seems to have opened all the way back to Tahiti. And that was only the first day!
